A monthly series introducing you to a ShindelRock teammate…this month, we meet Marianne Lilly, Senior Manager.

You specialize in audits and fraud examination–tell us about what you do for clients.

I specialize in three main service areas at ShindelRock: audit services, litigation support and internal control/fraud analysis and consulting.  For the audit services, I am responsible for maintaining the Firm’s adherence to professional standards and the Firm’s audit practice policies. I supervise and review audit work performed by our staff and plan new engagement services upon new client acceptance.

With respect to litigation support I help plan and perform the work necessary on a case-specific basis for the litigation services we provide.  Each case is unique and requires analysis on an ongoing basis.  I am able to use the financial, forensic and valuation experience, knowledge and skills I have developed to provide insight to attorneys and to perform economic loss or other calculations as needed. It is a very exciting  and interesting service area for us.

Internal control/fraud analysis and consulting involves looking at a businesses’ accounting and business practices, usually focusing on internal controls to provide observations and recommendations.  We can focus on specific areas such as cash receipts and disbursements, or evaluate the whole business operation. There is a wide range of services that we provide as it relates to internal control and consulting. I have performed these types of analyses for our current clients and for others who want an outside look at their organization.

What do you like about your job and the work you get to do?

I enjoy the clients we serve and the people I work with at ShindelRock.  Serving our client base allows me to use the professional skills I have developed over the years in a variety of business situations which has allowed me to provide valued services to clients as well as to develop as a professional. The people I work with allow us to provide high quality services as we all have different but over lapping skills sets. I work with a dedicated group of highly professional  people which makes my job enjoyable.

How long have you been with ShindelRock?  What do you like about the firm?

I have been at SR for six and half years.  There are a whole host of things I like about the Firm but overall I would have to say the thing I value most is the Firm philosophy of providing the highest quality of professional services to our clients by providing us with the necessary training and experience to be able to provide such high quality services.  The Firm  encourages all of us to develop as professionals by supporting ongoing educational activities and  encouraging us  to obtain additional professional certifications. Of course the Firm does a great job of providing a fun work environment.

What is your background, educational and professional?

I am a graduate of Michigan State University with Big 4 (okay, it was the Big 6 back then!) experience as an audit senior manager with Deloitte & Touche.  I have also worked in industry in banking, wholesale distribution and with a start-up graphics company. I am a certified public accountant and a certified fraud examiner and currently working to become a certified valuation analyst.
