Tax Alert- Recent Michigan Tax Balance Letters

April 28, 2026

We want to make you aware of an issue currently affecting many Michigan taxpayers.

The State of Michigan has recently sent out notices indicating that estimated payments were not credited to the taxpayer accounts, resulting in additional taxes owed. However, it has come to our attention that these letters were issued in error due to a system processing issue within the state’s tax department.

If you have received one of these notices, please do not panic or make any immediate payments.

Here’s what you should do:

  1. Carefully review the notice you received

  2. Do not submit payment until the balance has been verified

  3. Forward a copy of the letter to our office so we can review it on your behalf

Our team is closely monitoring this situation and will work directly with the appropriate state agencies to confirm whether any action is actually required. In many cases, these balances are incorrect and will be resolved without payment.

If you have already made a payment in response to one of these notices, please contact us as soon as possible so we can assist with next steps.

We understand that receiving unexpected tax notices can be concerning, and we are here to help guide you through this. Contact your ShindelRock team if you have questions.
