Meet our SR Intern: Stephanie Bodmer

June 13, 2024

We get to know Stephanie Boomer, a senior at Oakland University, as she joins our ShindelRock team as a Summer 2024 intern:

How did you choose ShindelRock, and what characteristics of a good place to intern did you see in ShindelRock?

I chose to intern with ShindelRock since it’s a smaller company with a more intimate environment.  I also enjoyed the modern atmosphere of the office and the overall positive attitude of the company.

What do you expect to work on during your internship at ShindelRock? What do you hope to come away with at the end of the season?

During my time at ShindelRock as an intern, I hope to get experience working with real-world accounting applications.  In school, I’ve learned a lot about the theories and rules behind accounting, but I haven’t had much exposure to what accountants might work on in day-to-day life.  I’m hoping to work on as many areas of accounting as possible, so I can know what I enjoy working on to help me make career decisions in the future.

What drew you to study accounting, and what makes you excited about the profession?

I’ve always enjoyed and been good at math and I wanted to continue with higher-level math in college.  Initially, I had decided to study engineering but eventually chose to switch to accounting.  I’m excited to work in an industry with many opportunities and positive job growth.

What is your background, college/major and graduation plans, etc.?

I graduated high school in 2018 and began studying at Oakland University that fall.  Throughout college, I changed my major many times--undecided, industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, actuarial science, and finally accounting.  I will graduate from Oakland University this December with a bachelor’s degree in accounting.  Thankfully, all my engineering courses have been useful in helping me to complete the 150 credit hours required to become a CPA.  I plan to start the CPA examination process after I graduate at the end of this year.
