Unemployment Compensation Provisions in the Take Responsibility for Workers and Families Act

The new $2 trillion CARES Act contains provisions related to unemployment compensation of which many small business owners may choose to take advantage:

Federal – Enhanced Unemployment Assistance Under the CARES Act – Supplemental Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation: The program provides a $250 billion extended unemployment insurance program and expands eligibility and offers workers an additional $600 per week for four months, on top of what state programs pay. It also extends unemployment insurance benefits through Dec. 31, 2020 for eligible workers. The program applies to the self-employed, independent contractors, part-time and gig economy workers meeting certain criteria.  Click here for a summary of the program and FAQs.
