President Trump signs executive order to limit regulations

[1]On January 30, President Trump signed an executive order to dramatically reduce federal regulations and control regulatory costs. The executive order requires federal agencies to eliminate two rules for every new one introduced. Additionally, the executive order requires agencies to conduct a cost analysis in which the cost of any new regulation must be completely offset by eliminating existing regulations.

The White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) will continue to review all major regulations, but agencies will also have to identify what two regulations will be repealed to offset the costs of any new rule. This directive does not apply to the military or to national security regulations, and there is an exception to allow flexibility during emergencies.

While a temporary regulatory freeze issued on January 20, 2017 is already in place, this executive order sets a budget for new regulations.
