[1]We get to know Emilie Nussbaum, a rising junior at Michigan State University, as she joins our ShindelRock team as a Summer 2023 intern:
What are you doing during your internship at ShindelRock? What do you hope to come away with at the end of the summer?
I am learning how to use and navigate new software while getting to learn real-life accounting first-hand rather than textbook examples. By the end of the summer, I am hoping to feel confident in everything I have learned here at ShindelRock and use this knowledge in my future endeavors.
What do you love about public accounting, what drew you to the profession and keeps you here?
I was drawn to accounting while taking a required accounting course at MSU. I never thought I would end up wanting to do accounting, but I absolutely loved the class and liked how it was a little challenging. I knew I wanted to be an accountant when I found myself completely losing track of time while working on accounting homework. I cannot wait to keep learning more.
How did you choose ShidelRock, and what characteristics of a good place to work did you see in ShindelRock and the people?
I found ShindelRock through a website called Handshake. During my interview, it was super easy to talk to them and I felt comfortable to be myself. I could tell from how genuine everyone was that I would be happy here.
What is your background, college and degree plans, etc.?
I grew up close by, in South Lyon, and have lived there my whole life. I am now a student at Michigan State University studying Accounting. I am not sure if I will go back to school after graduating to get my master’s degree, but it is something I would like to do. I plan to take the CPA exam during or soon after I graduate.
