dana_thumbYou’re a staff accountant as ShindelRock — tell us about what you do for clients.  What do you like about your job and the work you get to do?

My day at ShindelRock is different all the time.  I enjoy being in contact with our clients and helping them with  various accounting and tax needs.  On any given day, I could be helping them use QuickBooks, completing bank reconciliations, expense classification, responding to tax notices, or preparing year-end tax projections.  I enjoy the diversity of our client types of individuals, corporations and partnerships.

How long have you been with ShindelRock?  What do you like about the firm?

I started with ShindelRock in August of 2006.  At ShindelRock we have a great work environment, everyone is so friendly and committed to our company, clients and each other.  We work as a team to provide our clients with the best possible service.  The partners at ShindelRock lead by example by practicing a work life balance, and encourage us to grow as individuals and professionals.

What is your background, education and professional?

One of my first jobs out of high school was for a small manufacturing company in Romulus, were I was first exposed to the accounting field.  I worked my way up from receptionist to office manager/bookkeeper. Over the past 25 plus years, I have work experience as office manager/bookkeeper in a variety of industries which include manufacturing, electrical and service industries.

I obtained my associates degree in accounting from Schoolcraft College and completed my bachelors degree in Accountancy from Walsh College in 2003.  Since joining ShindelRock, I have become a QuickBooks  advisor and certified.  I have been volunteering with the Accounting Aide Society, preparing tax returns for low income individuals since 2007.  In January 2013, I obtained my Michigan certified public accountant (CPA) license.
