We welcome Marisa Goldie, a junior at Oakland University, to our team as a ShindelRock Tax Season 2021 intern:

What are you doing during your internship at ShindelRock? What do you hope to come away with at the end of your internship?

Currently I have been learning about the company and working on 1099s, as well as working on the former KT&T client data transfer.  At the end of this internship, I am hoping to understand what goes on within an accounting firm and to expand my knowledge within this field.

What do you love about public accounting, or what drew you to the profession?

Public accounting drew me in being that it has always been interesting to me being that we work on a variety of different clients and there are lots of options for a professional career path within the industry.  For instance, if it turns out that tax is no longer what I would like to pursue, then I would be able to try out audit as well!

How did you choose ShidelRock, and what characteristics of a good place to work did you see in ShindelRock and the people?

I chose ShindelRock because it is a smaller firm which offers a more one-on-one training experience throughout the internship. ShindelRock truly wants to teach throughout the internship and help you grow as a professional and within the firm.

What is your background, college and degree plans, etc.?

I currently am a third-year student at Oakland University studying accounting. I attended Loyola University (Chicago) for two years, studying general business and had two marketing internships previously. However, accounting has always held a place in my heart as I come from a family of CPAs. I am on track to graduate with my BA in Winter of 2023, and will pursue my master’s degree the following year in order to achieve the credits needed for CPA exam.
