Meet the SR Interns: Jordan Faulkner

[1]Welcome to the ShindelRock summer team, Jordan!

What are you doing during your internship at ShindelRock? What do you hope to come away with at the end of the summer?

This summer I plan to learn as much as I possibly can about the industry. This is my first time working in the accounting field, so I’m excited to dive into whatever work is thrown my way. So far I have spent my time learning the different computer programs associated with the functions of the firm and am currently working on a QuickBooks to reconcile bank and credit card statements as well as various administrative work. While having little experience of public accounting outside of the college classroom, my goal for this internship is to take home at least one new skill each day to expand my knowledge. By the end of the summer I hope to figure out if this is a career path I would like to pursue after graduation.

What do you love about public accounting, what drew you to the profession and keeps you here?

My initial interest in accounting started this past year during my junior year in college. I had taken both financial and managerial accounting classes and instantly became interested in public accounting. I enjoyed the work involved in the classes and wanted to learn how to translate my knowledge in the classroom into the real world.

How did you choose ShindelRock, and what characteristics of a good place to work did you see in ShindelRock and the people?

One of the most prominent things that drove my interest to intern at ShindelRock is the environment and the positivity that comes with it. ShindelRock is genuinely a place that wants to foster growth in their employees and constantly instills the phrase “don’t be afraid to ask questions”. Everyone who works here is always willing to give a helping hand no matter the circumstance. This is by far the most positive working environment I have every experienced.

What is your background, college and degree plans, etc.?

I’ve lived in metro Detroit my whole life (currently living in Commerce Twp. during the summer). I am 21 years old and will be going into my senior year at Michigan State University in the fall. I am currently a Finance major enrolled in the Eli Broad School of Business. My whole life I have always wanted to pursue higher education whether that is sitting for the CPA, getting my MBA, or attending law school. I’m hoping to use this amazing opportunity to truly figure out my career path.
