IRS allows fraud victims to obtain fraudulent return

Tax-Fraud [1]Many of those who have fallen victim to tax return identity theft have wanted to see a copy of the fraudulent return filed. Initially, the IRS disallowed this request; however, they have changed their position.

The new policy, detailed on the IRS website [2], lets taxpayers request a copy of a fraudulent return by mailing a letter to the IRS and including information such as their Social Security number and proof of identity like a copy of a driver’s license or passport.
