Executive Order issued on Affordable Care Act

[1]On January 20, President Trump issued an Executive Order that sets the broad policy of his administration to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The EO directs federal agencies with authority and responsibility under the Act to waive, defer, grant exemptions from, or delay implementation of ACA requirements that impose a fee, tax, penalty, or regulatory burden, to the maximum extent permitted by law.

It’s important to note that although the EO sends a clear message of President Trump’s intent, it does not change any current rules. Until new guidance is issued, government agencies, plan sponsors, employers, individuals, and health insurers must continue to comply with the ACA rules and regulations that are in place.
